Friends of the Eastern Promenade

Fort Allen Park

In Portland, Maine, atop Munjoy Hill, the Eastern Promenade and Fort Allen Park comprise a 68-acre grassy reserve sloping down to the peaceful waters of Casco Bay. The picturesque New England views here are some of the most beautiful in the world. Visitors look out over Casco Bay and her many islands and often photograph the ferries, rag-haulers, stinkpotters, lobsterboats, trawlers, tugs, tankers, and container ships that frequent the busy Portland harbor.

There are tennis and basketball courts, baseball fields, a playground, and multi-use trails that snake alongside the shoreline. It’s a popular spot for picnics, playing frisbee, kite flying, walking, running, biking, winter sledding, marathons, fundraising walks, swimming events and band concerts. All add life and joy to the park.

The Friends of the Eastern Promenade was founded in 2006 to preserve the park’s historic public landscape, protecting the environmental integrity and enhancing its recreational use. We invite you to to learn more about the Eastern Promenade and to join us in preserving this jewel on the Hill.
