600 tour Hidden Gardens of Munjoy Hill

This year's Hidden Gardens of Munjoy Hill tour was a huge success, with nearly 600 tour-goers strolling through the gardens on a picture-perfect summer day. The sixth annual tour, held on Sunday, July 10, featured a dozen urban gardens, including an English Victorian garden, a tranquil Japanese garden and a garden abounding with bonsai created from rescued plants from local nurseries.

The sixth annual tour, held on Sunday, July 10, featured a dozen urban gardens, including an English Victorian garden, a tranquil Japanese garden and a garden abounding with bonsai created from rescued plants from local nurseries. Members of the Society for East End Arts also opened their studios on the day of the tour.

The garden tour is a major fundraiser for Friends of the Eastern Promenade. Thanks to the tour's sponsors, FoEP's hard-working Garden Committee, and support from the Marketing Committee, this year's tour was the best ever.

"Each year our tour attendance grows," said Colleen Bedard, chair of Friends of the Eastern Promenade's Garden Committee. "We are pleased that we - once again - had beautiful weather and that so many people came out to see the gardens."

The Garden Committee is already on the lookout for gardens for next year's tour, which is scheduled for June 24, 2012. If you have a garden on Munjoy Hill or know of someone who might be interested in being on the tour, please contact Colleen Bedard at 233-7273 or cbedard@homesinmaine.com.
