Royal Hammer
Royal Hammer will have you grooving to the rhythms of the islands at the last concert of the summer at Fort Allen Park this Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Fort Allen Park Summer Concert series, scheduled for Thursday evenings through Aug. 30, features a variety of music, from blues to bluegrass and reggae to big band. New this year: burritos, tacos and other fare available for purchase from Hella Good Tacos, free water compliments of Poland Spring and a portable restroom on site.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the Fort Allen Park bandstand on the southeastern end of the Eastern Promenade. In case of cancellation, there will be no makeup dates.
The concerts are presented by Friends of the Eastern Promenade. Thursday’s Band Sponsor is Portland Maine Rentals. The Series Supporter is Cabot Creamery Cooperative.
About Royal Hammer
Royal Hammer is a roots reggae group from right here in Portland. Heavily influenced by Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, Dennis Brown and Roots Radics, the band members takes pride in the authenticity of their sound.
Mike Taylor is backed up by a heavy rhythm section including Gary Gemetti on drums, Mike Effenberger on keys, Tyler Quist on keys and guitar and Stu Mahan on bass. With Ryan Zoidis on tenor sax, Dave Noyes on trombone, and Lucas Desmond on alto sax, Royal Hammerís grooves are deep and infectious.
Royal Hammer has shared the stage with reggae legends Lee “Scratch” Perry and Barrington Levy, and the band has backed up international reggae artist Marty Dread and the legendary Glen DaCosta. Royal Hammer is currently working on its debut album.
