Dedicate A Bench
Restore the Past. Commemorate a bench.
Honor a friend.
Eastern Promenade Park provides iconic World’s Fair wood-and-iron benches throughout for visitors to sit, relax, and enjoy the view. These benches are timeless and there are several bench locations still available for commemoration. Plaque inscriptions are in bronze and allow for 3 lines of text with 21 characters per line. The benches are made from cast iron and Brazilian walnut hardwood (also called “Ipe” pronounced ee-pay).
This wood is an environmentally responsible choice that naturally resists rot, decay, insects, and mold without the use of toxic chemicals.
Commemorative benches intended for placement at the Jacob Cousins Memorial are $5,000, and 100% of your contribution is tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Six World's Fair benches are available for recognition and directly support the project goal; allowing reflection and inspiration for all who visit this significant war memorial. The renovation ensures safe access and a more dignified setting befitting recognition of Maine's first Jewish soldier who made the supreme sacrifice during World War I. Our bench recognition program directly supports the Jacob Cousins Memorial Renovation Project.
