Dogs on the Prom

The East End Beach

Dogs love the Eastern Prom! You’ll see plenty of pooches romping on the grassy slopes, socializing in the off-leash Voice Control areas or plunging into the water at the East End Beach.

If you bring your pup to the Prom, please remember to follow the rules and etiquette guidelines so everyone can enjoy our beautiful park:

Dogs must be leashed at all times throughout all regions and trails in the Eastern Promenade park other than specified Voice Control areas, including:

  • Eastern Promenade Trail: This includes crossing the trail to and from the voice-control area to the beach
  • Fort Allen Trail
  • Loring Memorial Trail

Dogs prohibited on playgrounds, schoolyards, and athletic fields in the City of Portland.

Violation of Leash Law shall be punishable by minimum fee of $75

Voice Control Season & Hours:

East End Beach & Designated Voice Control areas: Please see map

Summer: Memorial Day to Labor Day: Before 9 am and after 5 pm

Winter: Day after Labor Day through the day before Memorial Day: Anytime during park hours (5 am-10 pm)

Voice Control Rules and Regulations

  • Voice control means your dog(s) respond to and obeys your verbal commands. Owner must have leash in hand at all times and be physically present within 50 feet of the dog(s).
  • The number of dogs per person is limited to three.

Aggressive dog behavior will not be tolerated in the park or at the beach at an time!

Your stewardship and courtesy play a role in keeping our park a clean, safe and well maintained place for everyone to enjoy. Please respect our carry­in, carry­out policy, including dog waste. Violation of Portland’s poop scoop ordinance shall be punishable by minimum fine of $250 for each offense. The minimum penalty for a third offense under this section shall be $500. Do not throw waste in the brush or sewer system (manholes). Authorities take notice.
